Events Helped On Developing Impressionism:
Government:
During the 19th century, artists were successful putting their paintings at the Salon. That was the only way Impressionists published their art. If an artist won prizes at the Salon for their paintings, he also received a deal of profit to create art for the government. It was important to exhibit at the Salon because it was the only way to get identification for one’s work and to find new patrons.
Academie des beaux-arts:
The Academie des beaux art is a place where people learn drawing and painting. The Academie des beaux-arts were created in 1975. The Academie des beaux-arts directed to the French arts. The Académie art works of traditional French painting and style. Historical subjects, religious themes, and portraits were valued but not landscape, and the Académie preferred carefully finished images that looked realistic when observed closely. Color was boring and drops of brush blows were crushed, masking the artist's personality, emotions, and working techniques.
Scientific Thought:
The arts got affected by the scientific theory where scientists were only concerned with reality and proving the observation. Unlike some philosophic thought, scientific thought at the time was more aligned with the Impressionist mindset. Scientists looked at the way light interacts with their eyes' observations and how images are transmitted to the brain as sensations. They defended the importance of color and the dominance of the experience of color over the experience of shape.
War:
During the Franco-Prussian War, 1870-1871, there were a lot of buildings destroyed and a lot of cleaning to do. After the war they decided to reconstruct the city and the Impressionists came up with many ideas and painted the new reconstruction even more people were involved in this art revolution which is Impressionism.
Invention of photography:
Photography had an effect on Impressionism. The camera invenation impactED the Impressionists to think about other ways of painting than realistic because the camera could easily do it by a snapshots. It took a picture of reality. However the artist used photography to develop Impressionism. By the camera snapshots it gave them the technique to create a sense of movement and spontaneity. They played with light and dark colors to get people's attention like a water reflection.
Renovation of Paris
Paris was the site of modernity, the place where modern vision was developed. In Impressionism the urban landscape was for the first time at the center of the vision of landscape because that view sought to represent modernity. And that vision was shaped both by the modernization of the cityscape and by the new photographic technology. The signs of modernity in landscape were not only new buildings, bridges, factories, railroads, and canals but also topoi and points of view that had been unthinkable before. Journals and photography showed a more inclusive artistic horizon than ever before. As examples of Impressionism’s realist the specific, which is often proved by compare of these images to photographs. From a different perspective, we can consider the role played by urban views and photography in re defining landscape to surround, the city and the country as well as modern ways of seeing.
Japonism:
One of the greatest art styles in the world is Japonism. The Impressionist artists admired Japonism artwork, and it was the first time for the westerners see art based on Japanese culture. The Impressionists were inspired by the smooth, bright colors and the asymmetrical compositions of the Japanese painting.
Introduction of paints in tubes and the box/field easel:
Before the paints were in tubes, artists wanted to paint outdoors . They came up with mixing colors with oil which make it thinner and then they put it in a glass but artists faced a problem - the glass could easily brake. It was heavy and breakable glass.
Later on, the paint in tubes were invented which made paints saved in the tubes. Tubes were light and not breakable. They could carry it with them everywhere and didn't waste paints just like the glass. Artists expanded to more painting outside of their doors with the help of the invention of field easel. The field easel could easily be folded in to one piece that turned into a bag where it's easy to hold, carry around, and store. Tubes and the field easel made expanding much easier.
